The Railway Sleeper is comfortable and well equipped offering budget overnight accommodation and is situated around 5 minutes walk from Colchester North mainline rail station. This serves London’s Liverpool Street.
We have single, double, twin and family overnight accomodation with parking and conveniently located for Colchester General Hospital and Oaks Private Hospital as well as being about 15 minutes walk to the town centre of Colchester.
Within walking distance is Colchester United Football Club's home ground at the Community Stadium. This is an ideal location for home or away fans to make a night of it. Additionally you are very close to several golf courses and the village of West Bergholt. We are also very near to Colchester's General Hospital and the University of Essex is a short bus ride away (see our Locally page for travel directions) can easily be accessed by either bus or train close by.
This is a guest house with a difference. We model ourselves on some of the larger chains of budget hotels but unlike many of these, we aim to offer budget prices. We are not your traditional bed & breakfast but offer comfort combined with all the essentials ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible and at a price you can afford.
The guest house has been designed with the emphasis being to provide excellent facilities to all our customers which is particularly suited to business people and contractors alike. To provide complete flexibility we operate a self check in / out facility. All rooms are compact (average room size 7.5 sq mtrs) but comfortable and with practical ensuite rooms (average size 2.6 sq mtrs).
We can offer a first class breakfast catering for vegetarians also during Monday - Friday (unless you have booked Room Only) and a small complimentary cold snack at weekends. Our ethos is based on a simple ideal of good food cooked and presented at its best.
"We dont serve fast food, but good food cooked as fast as we can."
During the week you have a choice of a cooked breakfast such as full English, toasted sandwiches, omelettes, and kippers or a cold continental breakfast. We stock a wide variety of speciality teas, cona and instant coffee where the emphasis is based on fairtrade. There is an ice station and chilling facilities on the first floor for our guests convenience. Hairdryers and straighteners are available on request.
Not only are there plenty of excellent pubs, restaurants and take-aways walking distance from The Railway Sleeper, historic Colchester town offers much more. There are numerous sites such as Colchester Castle, the superb Castle Park as well as many other landmark buildings you would expect to find in Britain's oldest recorded town. There is a bus stop directly across the road which takes you into the centre of town in a few minutes.
A well equipped leisure centre is not far away and a short drive will take you into some lovely countryside.
At night there are many thriving nightclubs and bars, as well as a theatre to keep you entertained.
